Diaconia Latvia
The official diaconia in the ELCL began in April 1993 with the diaconia conference with more than 100 participants from all over Latvia, including pastors and parish workers, as well as guests from Norway and representatives from the Northelbian church in Germany.
In June, 1994 a legally independent structure "The Diaconia Centre of the ELCL" was established by the Consistory.
Since 1996 our address is: Riga, Daugavgrivas iela 1. The building belongs to the evangelical Lutheran Jesus church and has been renovated thanks to the support of the Diaconia Centre of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) and Church of Sweden.
In 1999, Diaconia Centre became a member of the European Diaconia Federtation (Eurodiaconia).
In 2004, the legal status of Diaconia Centre was changed from a "LTD non-profit organisation" to "Foundation".
In May 2005, the Foundation "Diaconia Centre" was granted a social benefit organization status.
